At Sailors Bay Dentistry we believe maintaining oral health is the most important tool in dentistry, as while we are highly skilled in fixing dental problems, it is much better for your health and wallet that those problems do not occur at all!
Your oral hygiene is very important to your oral health. A thorough oral hygiene check up removes the bacteria from your teeth and gums helping to maintain good oral health. We recommend 6 monthly preventative care check ups with your dentist, this includes an examination to identify and treat potential dental issues before they escalate and a professional clean and polish to remove the hard build up of plaque that regular brushing can miss.
A oral hygiene routine also involves consistent oral care, including brushing your teeth with a soft bristle tooth brush twice daily as well as flossing between the teeth once a day. Using a mouth wash will also help prevent bacterial plaque that cause gingivitis and bad breath.
A dental hygienist is responsible for maintaining your oral health by keeping your teeth and gums clean and disease free. They also teach you techniques to maintain this cleanliness when you are at home so that you can prevent dental problems.
Our Oral Health Therapists have undergone tertiary education so that they can work as hygienists, as well as carry out dental treatment for people up until the age of 18.
Our dental hygienists, have worked at the practice for many years and have a loyal and happy following of dedicated patients. They both offer very caring, gentle treatments and work closely with the Dentists to ensure optimum oral health care for their patients. They have a very professional approach and take maintaining good oral hygiene very seriously.
We have two oral health therapists, who work as hygienists, but can also do dental treatment for those under the age of 18. This work includes check ups, fillings and some extractions.
All hygienists and oral health practitioners are qualified to provide in chair Zoom whitening for our adult patients.
Our team of hygenists have been specifically trained to perform preventative treatment as well as health maintenance when it comes to the mouth, teeth and gums. This is so more time can be dedicated to this important aspect of your oral health as well as freeing up your dentist for more complicated dental procedures.
Dental Hygienists are required to have undertaken a 3 year degree or diploma in Oral Health Therapy.
